Sue Smith, AEF Board Member—B. A. Hardin Simmons University, M. Ed., Texas Tech University

Smith taught Junior/Senior level English in the public school system in Texas for ten years, serving as Student Council sponsor and coaching UIL speaking events.  Service for the West Central Texas Council of Governments, a 19-county regional planning commission, began with strategic and operational planning for employment programs, and continued as a program administrator for the following: Director of Regional Alcohol Abuse/Addiction Services, Regional Health Services Director, primarily the Maternal and Infant Health Improvement Act program, Regional Housing Rehabilitation Program Director, and Regional 9-1-1 Director, working with county/city elected officials, public safety agencies, and schools to establish the current 9-1-1 system in eighteen of the nineteen WCTCOG counties.

While directing regional alcoholism services, Smith introduced implementation of an alcohol abuse/addiction prevention curriculum for elementary students in Texas with the pilot program tested in two Abilene ISD elementary schools.  Smith has served as president of the Madison Middle School PTA and on the Cooper High School Parent Partnership Board.

She is married to financial consultant, Gary Smith, and has one son, Cameron, a Texas Tech Honors College student.
