Kaye Price-Hawkins

Kaye Price-Hawkins, educational consultant, conducts language arts (reading and writing) and staff development for teachers in Texas as well as in other states. After receiving her undergraduate degree from Pepperdine College in 1966 and her Master's degree from Abilene Christian University in 1972, Kaye began her career in education which continues today. She taught 18 years in secondary schools, served as a K-12 Language Arts facilitator for two years, and worked for eight years at the Region 14 Education Service Center before beginning her own business, Priceless Literacy, in 2000.

Kaye has taught several college classes for the three universities throughout the years. Early in her career, she taught adjunct classes at Dyess AFB for McMurry at night for ten years while teaching public school in the daytime. Because of Kaye's passion for education and the arts, she serves the Abilene Education Foundation in several areas of interest. She worked with Rob Westman and Jean McMillon to create a video to introduce the opportunity for a payroll deduction partnership to fund STAR grants and provided matching grants in 2007-8 and 2008-9. Kaye actively served on the Young Masters Juried Art Exhibition committee and helps with the COOL program.

She is married to Joe N. Hawkins, co-owner of Hawkins Builders. Her son Shane Price and wife Carmen have four children attending Abilene schools. Her daughter Hainey teaches first grade in the Washington International School in Washington DC and is married to Greg Staley.

Being an AEF Board member is one way Kaye says she can give back to this community she calls home. "Serving AEF is a privilege and a joy because we assist teachers' classroom needs and students' educational dreams. Inspirational stories accompanying the requests for grants and scholarships touch my heart and evaluations that follow awarded grants confirm our mission."
