Boys to Men

Dec 7, 2009

Abilene Education Foundation is very excited about the Boys to Men program involved with Madison Middle School.

Boys to Men is a program designed to help guide middle school boys with leadership traits through the meeting and discussing with positive role models. Thirty to forty-five boys are chosen who show these leadership traits and would benefit from some time spent with positive role models.

Madison Middle School Principal, Jennifer Raney, said, "We try to aim for about ½ kids who are currently pretty successful in school and about half who have the potential to be successful. Our parents were thrilled with the program last year. The response was even stronger with Boys to Men than the girls’ counterpart program TLC (Teen Leadership Council) which we already thought was a great success!! I bet 35 out of the original 38 boys who were invited turned the slip in the very next morning. That is unheard of in middle school!"

As the year goes on, if more boys want to participate they are added. It is not an exclusive group in any way. We have community members involved, but would love to have more.
